Congatec takes over Kontron's Module Business

In January, Kontron bundled its Computer-on-Modules (CoM) business in its subsidiary JUMPtec, thereby reviving a traditional brand. Congatec has now announced its majority stake in Kontron's module business.

Congatec announces the acquisition of a majority stake in Kontron's module business. The business includes JUMPtec GmbH from Deggendorf, Kontron America Modules LLC and Kontron Asia Embedded Design Sdn. Bhd. With this acquisition, congatec expands its product range with standardized Computer-on-Modules (COM) and strengthens its global market presence.

JUMPtec's existing product lines - including COM-HPC, COM Express, SMARC and Qseven modules - will continue unchanged. For JUMPtec customers, business relationships will not change and deliveries will continue as before.

A new benefit for JUMPtec customers is access to congatec's aReady. portfolio of application-ready software modules. In future, these can be used directly on compatible JUMPtec modules. These include the hypervisor technology aReady.VT, the IoT software aReady.IOT, Ubuntu Pro from Canonical and ctrlX OS from Bosch Rexroth - all pre-installed, configured and licensed.

On the expansion of the cooperation with Kontron, congatec explains: "The result is an even more effective partnership. The customers of both companies will benefit from this."

The transaction also strengthens the manufacturing and development partnership between congatec and Kontron, enabling new synergies in the development, production and use of Computer-on-Modules. In addition to JUMPtec modules, Kontron can now also integrate congatec's complete portfolio into its offering.

Statements from the companies

Konrad Garhammer, CTO and COO of the congatec Group, explains: "By joining forces with JUMPtec, we are gaining valuable expertise, experienced specialists and a complementary product portfolio. This allows us to optimize development processes and further increase our speed of innovation. All Modul customers worldwide will benefit from this through technologically leading products, a broader selection and faster access to new technologies."

Dr. Dominik Ressing, CEO of congatec GmbH, commented on the strategic importance: "This transaction is an important milestone in our growth strategy and represents the logical further development of our strategic cooperation with Kontron. It consolidates our position as a leading provider of embedded and edge computer technology and strengthens our portfolio and development capacities in a targeted manner. This will enable us to offer innovative and application-ready high-performance ecosystems even faster - from pure modules, suitable cooling solutions and carrier boards to design-in and test services and individual aReady.COM solution platforms. This is a particular advantage for all JUMPtec and congatec customers and a good argument for all those who have not yet relied on our COMs to switch to us."
