IIC/OpenFog
Together towards IIoT
The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and the OpenFog Consortium (OpenFog) are joining forces: Under the umbrella of the IIC, the combined membership is intended to accelerate the introduction of IIoT, fog and edge computing.
The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and the OpenFog Consortium (OpenFog) reached an agreement in principle at the end of December to merge the two international consortia in the field of industrial IoT, fog and edge computing. The move is intended to bring OpenFog members into the IIC organization at a time when their complementary technology areas are emerging in the mainstream. The joint memberships are expected to further advance the momentum of the Industrial Internet, including the development and promotion of industry guidelines and best practices for fog and edge computing. The companies expect to finalize details in early 2019.
"Both organizations have been driving IIoT, fog and edge computing, and their members represent the best and brightest minds in their fields. It makes sense to combine their expertise and workflows to continue to provide the thematic guidance on IIoT, fog and edge computing that the industry needs," said Christian Renaud, Research Vice President, Internet of Things, 451 Research.
