According to the provider, encryption in accordance with IEEE 802.1ae MACsec guarantees secure, tamper-proof data transmission. As it is implemented in hardware, encryption takes place with practically no loss of performance. The two 10 Gigabit uplinks can be connected to two different switches via different lines (dual homing), which provides additional security: If one connection fails, the switch is still connected to the network at 10 Gbit/s. The two ports can also be used for a ring structure. With a range of up to 20 km per uplink, the switch is suitable for outdoor connections, for example to connect sites with each other or to connect remote locations to the head office at high data rates. The device has two DC voltage inputs for a redundant power supply. Firmware and device configuration are stored on an SD card.
