The SmartStart LTE router has an Ethernet interface, an I/O module, an RS232 interface and two SIM card holders; WLAN is optional. The router offers data transfer rates of up to 150 Mbit/s download and up to 50 Mbit/s upload. The CPU with 256 MByte Flash and 512 MByte RAM equips it for future tasks. The Lucom routers also have a sleep mode with a power consumption of just 40 mW, which is ideal for solar-powered stand-alone solutions, for example.

The insulation voltage of 1.5 kV of the Ethernet ports, the operating temperature range of -40 to +75 °C (-40 to +55 °C with WLAN) and the high vibration resistance allow the routers to be used even under the harshest industrial conditions. The 'SmartStart' is configured and updated via the web interface or via auto-update. OpenVPN and IPsec are accepted standards that guarantee secure communication.
