Industrial communication
Pepperl+Fuchs acquires
On February 1, Pepperl+Fuchs took over the business activities of the US company Comtrol Corp., thereby expanding its portfolio of Ethernet and IO-Link-based industrial communication modules.
Comtrol, a provider of Ethernet-based industrial communication and IO-Link master gateways, employs more than 50 people and generated sales of over 13 million US dollars in 2018. With the acquisition of the company, Pepperl+Fuchs is expanding its portfolio of Ethernet- and IO-Link-based industrial communication modules and can thus offer more solutions to close the gap between the sensor-actuator and control level up to the cloud. According to Reiner Müller, Head of Factory Automation at Pepperl+Fuchs, "This is a further step towards Industry 4.0, as we can now support our customers even better in making the communication of their industrial networks more efficient and flexible, thereby driving the development of their digital business processes. A good example of this is the IO-Link Master Gateway with OPC UA protocol".
Pepperl+Fuchs Comtrol Inc. will continue to be headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The takeover affects Comtrol's entire portfolio of products for industrial network and data communication - according to Reiner Müller, this "ideally complements the Industrial Communication Interfaces within our strategic business unit Systems, in which our activities for AS-Interface, IO-Link and Ethernet interfaces as well as Industrial Connectivity are bundled". Well-known brands such as 'RocketLinx', 'DeviceMaster' and 'RocketPort' will be retained, as will the Comtrol brand, which will be integrated under the Pepperl+Fuchs umbrella brand.
