New function for the IODDfinder
With the IODDfinder, the IO-Link community has established a central tool for providing IODDs - the device descriptions for IO-Link devices. Now the IODDviewer opens up new possibilities.
Currently, the IODDs of over 100 manufacturers with support for well over 20,000 IO-Link devices can be found in the central IODDfinder database. In 2020 alone, the number of IO-Link devices mapped in IODDfinder increased by around 70 %. The IODDviewer now provides users with a new function: simple, centralized access to documentation and information about the device functions described in an IODD.
The IODDviewer provides three levels of information:
- Overview of supported IO-Link features, profiles and communication properties,
- Display of the user interface described in the IODD with all parameters and their value ranges,
- Detailed view with technical information on individual parameters with data types and structure.
On the user side, this means that IODDs no longer need to be downloaded and possibly installed in order to get an overview of a device function. An IODD view, similar to an IO-Link tool, is now available via quick access to the IODDviewer directly in the browser window. The more technical view of parameter details also provides a central reference work for specific IO-Link parameters, for example for software development.
In a first step, the IODDviewer only supports the display of IODDs for IO-Link devices according to specification 1.1. This accounts for more than 90 % of all current IO-Link devices. In a subsequent step, which is already under development, all IODDs and other features will be displayed.
