Industry 4.0 benchmark for SMEs

Where does your own company stand with Industry 4.0? And in which areas is implementation even worthwhile? A 15-minute online check helps you to determine where you stand. It was developed in the Inlumia project, a cooperation between industry and research.

With the Inlumia project's online benchmark, SMEs can find out where they stand compared to their competitors when it comes to implementing Industry 4.0.

The Inlumia project is a collaboration between a total of eleven partners from industry and research. These include Bielefeld University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronics Design Technology and Miele. Based on pilot projects for the implementation of Industry 4.0, an online benchmark has been created as the first project milestone.

In the form of an online questionnaire, the benchmark is primarily intended to enable decision-makers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to determine where they stand and identify the areas in which the implementation of Industry 4.0 strategies is worthwhile. Ultimately, this will ensure that not what is fundamentally possible is introduced, but what is suitable for the respective company, according to the project's website.

Passing on the experience of pioneers

It takes about 15 minutes to complete the questionnaire. The questionnaire asks for general company information such as the number of employees and field of activity. For more specific questions, a sample product and a sample production facility must be selected.

The benchmark also takes into account the qualifications of employees and future scenarios in order to identify potential for improvement. Implementation patterns of Industry 4.0 and IoT pioneers are also analyzed for specific recommendations for action.

Similar projects have already been launched by the VDMA and the IHK in Darmstadt.
