CommunicationThe migration path from FDT to FDI
The assets of the Field Device Tool Group (FDT) were transferred to the FieldComm Group in 2024, which in turn also owns Field Device Integration technology (FDI). What does this mean for field device manufacturers who relied on FDT?
In FDI, the device manufacturer creates a package (as a signed ZIP file with a defined structure and metadata). The device logic and the UI are described in the form of an EDD. An FDI server loads this package and interprets this EDD for communication with the device and for displaying the UI. In addition to enabling clients on different platforms to work with the devices using the packages, FDI also defines an OPC UA model for integrating all device information of a system in IoT scenarios. © FieldCom Group
