In terms of newly installed nodes in factory automation, Industrial Ethernet has overtaken traditional fieldbuses. This is the conclusion of the latest study by HMS Industrial Networks on the market share of industrial networks.

"We have followed the development closely and the transition to Industrial Ethernet was foreseeable, but only now has it overtaken fieldbuses in terms of the number of newly installed nodes," says Thilo Döring, Managing Director at HMS. "The main drivers for Industrial Ethernet are the need for high performance, the integration of factory installations and IT/IoT systems and the Industrial Internet of Things in general."
