A "live-or-die moment"
Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei piles on the pressure
In a letter to employees, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei warns of a "life-or-death moment" for the company and warns underutilized employees to start new projects - otherwise they could face salary cuts or dismissal.
Even if the US sanctions against Huawei remain relaxed, the Chinese manufacturer is under immense pressure. This is now also reflected in an internal letter to Huawei employees, in which founder Ren Zhengfei warns of a "life-or-death moment" for the company, according to Bloomberg.
Huawei has already cut jobs in recent months, including at its American research subsidiary. The remaining employees must now perform "meritorious deeds" for the company, Ren writes, and management should promote outstanding employees as quickly as possible to ensure "fresh blood".
The pressure is increasing, especially for employees who have no more work or fewer tasks than before as a result of the trade conflict. Those who are underutilized must form "command units" to start new projects - then they can also be promoted, says Ren. They could also look for new jobs internally. "If they don't manage to find a new role, their salaries are cut every three months." Ultimately, there is even the threat of dismissal.
"If you can't do the job, make room for our tanks," Reuters continues. Ren now sees Huawei in "battle mode" in order to survive the crisis. If this can be achieved, a new army will be born, according to the company founder's pithy words. "To do what? To dominate the world."
