Double-digit sales growth in the first half of 2019

Huawei Technologies has published its financial results for the first half of 2019: Despite being included in the US sanctions list, the company recorded a 23.2% increase in sales compared to the same period last year. The figures in detail.

"Given the foundations laid in the first half of the year, we continue to see growth even after being added to the US sanctions list," said Liang Hua, Huawei. "That doesn't mean we don't have difficulties. We have, and they may affect the pace of our growth in the short term. But we will stay the course and continue to invest as planned - including CNY 120 billion (EUR 15.6 billion) in research and development this year."

In total, Huawei Technologies generated sales of 401.3 billion Chinese renminbi yuan (CNY) or 51.4 billion euros (exchange rate at the end of June 2019). The company's net profit margin for the first half of 2019 amounted to 8.7%.

In Huawei's carrier business, revenue reached CNY 146.5 billion (EUR 18.8 billion) in the first half of the year, with steady growth in the production and supply of equipment for wireless networks, optical transmission, data communications, IT and related product areas. To date, Huawei has signed 50 commercial 5G contracts and supplied more than 150,000 base stations to markets around the world.

Huawei's enterprise business revenue in the first half of the year amounted to CNY 31.6 billion or EUR 4 billion. Huawei is expanding its ICT portfolio in various areas, including cloud, artificial intelligence, campus networks, data centers, IoT and intelligent computing. The company remains a supplier to government and utility customers as well as customers in the financial, transportation, energy and automotive industries.

In Huawei's consumer business, sales in the first half of the year amounted to CNY 220.8 billion or EUR 28.3 billion. Huawei's smartphone shipments (including Honor phones) reached 118 million units, up 24% year-on-year. The company also saw rapid growth in shipments of tablets, PCs and wearables. Huawei is starting to scale its device ecosystem to enable a seamless smart experience across all major user scenarios. To date, the Huawei Mobile Services ecosystem has more than 800,000 registered developers and 500 million users worldwide.
