Using IoT technology, ABB 's Industrial Gateway enables the monitoring of all downstream low and medium voltage devices. Different connections including Wi-Fi and cellular in the cloud or on site are supported. Compared to many data analytics systems that send the collected raw IoT data directly to the cloud, edge computing first processes the data within the on-site systems and only sends structured information packets to the cloud. When connecting to the cloud, the edge gateway plays an important role in keeping data available and consistent. In the event of an interruption to the cloud connection, the data can be easily cached. The connection is automatically re-established as soon as the internet connection is available again.
