Avnet and MSC merge
MSC Technologies and Avnet Integrated will be merged and will operate globally as Avnet Integrated in the future.
This was announced by Avnet at embedded world on February 28, 2018. However, the previous company name of MSC as 'MSC Technologies GmbH' will remain unchanged. "The combination of the two companies is intended to provide customers with the greatest possible benefit and the most complete offering in the entire embedded market," explain Dr. Dominik Ressing, Chief Technology Officer of Avnet Integrated, and Martin Brooks, Vice President Sales & Marketing of Avnet Integrated EMEA. Ressing previously led MSC Technologies as President. Brooks comes from Avnet Embedded, the predecessor organization of Avnet Integrated. The business unit with the name Avnet Integrated already took the place of Avnet Embedded last year.
It was foreseeable that MSC and Avnet Integrated would be merged: The comprehensive reorganization of the Avnet Group over the past 18 months has made it clear that the various embedded companies in the Group need to be brought closer together worldwide to provide attractive and consistent customer benefits, according to Avnet. The distribution group can look back on significant changes since 2016: the sale of the computer division Avnet TS, the purchase of Premier Farnell, the establishment of Avnet's technology ecosystem and a comprehensive re-branding. With Avnet Integrated Solutions, Avnet has now created a new powerful business unit: a new global player with a sales volume in the billion dollar range. As announced after the acquisition of MSC, MSC Technologies will act as the technological spearhead and be "the internal brand for technology and solutions, with excellent products, design and production capacities", according to Ressing and Brooks. After all, MSC is successful in the embedded module business and display systems as well as in ODM, i.e. customized development and production.
Accordingly, the new business unit is also positioning itself at embedded world 2018 with industrial computer modules, the new family of configurable Simple Plus touch displays, which should enable access to production-ready touch technologies in days instead of months, new development and manufacturing options for industrial servers, as well as hardware and software for IoT devices and IoT design services.
