With the K2 series, Palo Alto Networks has developed the first 5G-capable next-generation firewall specifically for service providers with 5G and IoT requirements. The K2 series enables service providers to prevent cyberattacks on 4G and 5G cellular networks, IoT devices and mobile users through network traffic visibility. The new features include software and hardware enhancements to the next-generation firewall platform, designed to increase security and simplify protection in hybrid cloud environments: Predict and Prevent - According to threat researchers at Unit 42, nearly 80% of all malware uses domain name servers to establish a command-and-control channel. The new DNS security service uses machine learning to proactively block malicious domains and stop ongoing attacks. Performance - Palo Alto Networks recognizes that customers with large data centers, high volumes of encrypted traffic and a growing ecosystem of IoT devices need performance without compromising security. The PA-7000 series with new network processor cards provides threat defense at twice the speed of the next closest competitor and delivers three times faster decryption than before. Simplicity - Security rules from traditional firewalls leave security gaps. The new Policy Optimizer helps teams replace traditional rules with intuitive rules that provide better security and are easier to manage. More comprehensive cloud security - The VM series now supports the broadest range of public cloud and virtualized data center environments, including Oracle Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Cisco Enterprise Network Compute System (ENCS) and Nutanix. The increase in firewall throughput performance for AWS and Azure by up to 2.5x, combined with autoscaling and transitive architectures, enables security to be automated for dynamic and large-scale public cloud deployments.
