WEG is launching the MVW3000 inverter series for voltages from 2.3 kV to 8 kV and outputs from 280 kW to 2400 kW. The series is designed in multilevel technology with cascaded H-bridges (CHB). This topology is based on a series connection of three to ten 690 V low-voltage power units with an IGBT output inverter bridge in H-connection, depending on the output voltage. The inverter is a complete cabinet-integrated system with medium-voltage disconnector, fuses, multilevel infeed transformer and frequency inverter. The mains power factor of the inverter achieves a value >0.95 over the entire speed setting range without an additional harmonic filter or compensation capacitors. According to the manufacturer, the efficiency including the transformer exceeds 95 % over the entire speed setting range and reaches over 96 % at an inverter load >40 %. The precharging circuit for the multilevel mains transformer ensures that the transformer circuit is magnetized without starting current and that the inverter DC link capacitors are gently precharged. The mains transformer adapts the mains voltage to the motor output voltage and reduces the common-mode voltage in the motor winding. In addition, the fiber optic interfaces between the inverter CPU and power section for IGBT control, temperature monitoring, voltage and current feedback increase interference immunity and effectively isolate the control and power sections from each other.
