Axis Communications
Subsidiary for explosion-proof network cameras founded
Axis Communications has founded the subsidiary Axis Ex AB, which will develop and manufacture its own globally certified explosion-proof network cameras and devices.
Explosive environments - from the oil and gas sector to the chemical industry and food production - require constant monitoring. But even a single spark from an electronic camera can be a potential trigger for an explosion in such an area. This is precisely why explosion-proof cameras are housed in heavy-duty enclosures made of stainless steel or aluminum. They are also certified to protect against exactly this type of sparking.
Axis Communications has been offering a broad portfolio of explosion-proof network cameras in collaboration with manufacturing partners since 2015. In view of the market growth and the fact that more and more industries are recognizing the benefits of these cameras, the Swedish company has now decided to manufacture its own explosion-proof products through the newly founded subsidiary Axis Ex AB.
Philippe Kubbinga, Regional Director Middle Europe at Axis Communications, explains that it is "the next major strategic step for Axis Communications to take full responsibility for the development and manufacture of explosion-proof devices. This is because every manufacturer must comply with strict certifications."
Now that the subsidiary's quality management has been thoroughly tested and found to comply with the international standards ISO 9001 and ISO 80079-34, Axis Ex AB will be able to manufacture and distribute its own explosion-proof network products worldwide in accordance with ATEX, IECEx, METLabs and other global certifications. The first models will be available in summer 2021.
