International Vision Standards Meeting in Frankfurt
The next IVSM from May 14 to 18, 2018 will be hosted by Silicon Software in cooperation with the VDMA. Around 150 technical experts from all over the world will come together in Frankfurt to discuss new standards for the machine vision industry.
Twice a year, technical experts meet in Asia, America and Europe to work together and coordinate according to a rotating system. The background to this is an agreement that has been in place since 2009 between associations from the machine vision sector to coordinate standards in the field of machine vision, known as "G3". The aim is to develop internationally valid standards and avoid duplication or overlaps. Existing G3 standards are: GenICam, GigE Vision, CoaXPress, Camera Link, Camera Link HS, USB3 Vision and VDI/VDE/VDMA 2632, Sheet 2. the latest G3 standardization project is OPC Vision, which is being worked on under the auspices of the VDMA. The aim is to develop an OPC UA companion specification that describes the integration of image processing and Industry 4.0. As part of the Future Standard Forum at IVSM Spring 2018, new potential standardization projects will be discussed, such as MIPI-CSI2 or the CCRC votes.
"Standards are the turbocharger of industry growth," says Dr. Klaus-Henning Noffz, CEO of Silicon Software and member of the Executive Board of the VDMA Machine Vision Division. "They were one of the reasons for the veritable growth boom in the machine vision industry in recent years and are the key to further growth in the sector." Components and systems with standardized interfaces accelerate the market availability of new applications and solutions. "We are therefore delighted to be hosting the next IVSM in May 2018," adds Dr. Reinhard Heister, responsible for vision standards at VDMA.
