Growth in industrial image processing
Machine vision in Germany is expected to grow by 8% in 2022. This was announced by the VDMA Machine Vision department at the opening of the VISION 2022 trade fair in Stuttgart.

© SensworkDemand for machine vision components and systems grew more strongly in 2021, increasing by 16% to industry sales of € 3.1 billion in Germany. Further growth of 8% is now forecast compared to the previous year, which corresponds to an expected turnover of EUR 3.3 billion. The growth prospects for the coming year are positive despite the overall economic uncertainty, according to Mark Williamson, Chairman of the Executive Board of the VDMA Machine Vision Division.

© Stemmer ImagingAccording to the VDMA's 2022 "Machine Vision in Europe" study, machine vision manufacturers generated 97% of their sales in the "Components" and "Systems" segments last year. Manufacturers of machine vision components generated 66% of their sales abroad. Exports to Asian countries accounted for 30% of turnover in 2021. India was the largest growth market with an increase of 89%. Exports to North America grew by 15% last year. Exports to other European countries accounted for 22% of turnover. Overall, turnover in Europe grew by 15%.
74% of sales were generated by manufacturers of machine vision systems in foreign markets. Asian countries accounted for 33% of sales - exports increased by 22% in 2021. India was also the largest growth market in this segment with an increase of 20%. Exports to other European countries accounted for 24% of sales.
The manufacturing industry is the largest customer sector for machine vision from Germany and has a market share of around 60%. In the fields of application of machine vision components and systems, object recognition (21%) and quality control (20%) have the largest market shares.
