3D image processing

Inka Krischke,

Cognex acquires

Cognex is expanding its expertise in 3D image processing with the recent acquisition of two companies specializing in this technology.

The first is EnShape, a manufacturer of 3D image processing sensors from Jena, which was acquired by Cognex at the end of October. EnShape's 3D sensors use a patented surface scanning technology that enables fast image acquisition with high resolution and thus achieves highly accurate 3D measurements. Objects no longer have to be moved in front of the camera, as is the case with laser light sectioning (or laser triangulation).

Secondly, the acquisition of AQSense, a manufacturer of 3D image processing software from Girona, Spain, was completed at the end of August. AQSense develops and sells a library of 3D image processing tools as well as a configuration software package that supports customers in setting up their 3D applications. The company's software developers joined the Cognex 3D engineering team upon completion of the acquisition.
