The acquisition strengthens Cognex 's role in the field of deep learning-based image processing and the automation of inspection applications. Sualab's engineering team and technologies will be used to expand Cognex's existing capabilities in this area. "Deep learning enables Cognex to solve many inspection challenges that previously could only be solved by large teams of human inspectors," said Robert J. Willett, President and CEO of Cognex. Dr. Robert J. Shillman, founder and Chairman of the Board of Cognex, continues: "In the future, such tasks can be performed more reliably and cost-effectively by machine vision."

Sualab was founded in 2013 in Seoul, Korea, by Song Kiyoung.
