AI simplifies OCR applications
Cognex has expanded the capabilities of the 'In-Sight 2800' vision system to include optical character recognition: The 'ViDi EL Read Tool' is based on edge learning technology and deciphers clear text on reflective, low-contrast and uneven surfaces.
OCR applications can be complex to set up and require hours of programming by engineers. This prevents many companies from automating such applications. With Cognex 's 'ViDi EL Read-Tool', models are set up directly on the device in a matter of minutes using just ten sample images. The accuracy of the results is measured with a so-called Confidence Score, which is displayed under each of the trained characters and provides real-time visual feedback and reliable traceability throughout the supply chain.
Many industries benefit from this OCR solution. For example, companies in the food and beverage industry can use it to read the best-before date even on challenging surfaces to ensure the freshness of goods and avoid product recalls. Medical device and pharmaceutical companies use the tool to check dates and batch codes to ensure the effectiveness of vaccines and compliance with medical standards. Electric vehicle manufacturers can quickly locate and read alphanumeric text laser etched on the bottom of batteries to improve traceability, and logistics facilities use it to decode codes and text on a variety of packaging types to ensure proper routing and avoid rework.
The In-Sight 2800 vision system was first launched in April 2022 and is designed to solve complex classification applications.
