Vision 2024

Alexandra Hose,

The lecture program is available

VISION 2024 will be larger and more international and will address the latest industry topics. The forum with the Industrial VISION Days, the Scientific VISION Days and the VISION Award as well as the trend topics of synthetic data, 3D imaging and AI will be in the spotlight.

The world's leading trade fair for machine vision will take place at Messe Stuttgart from October 8 to 10, 2024.

The Industrial VISION Days, which are jointly organized by VDMA Machine Vision and Messe Stuttgart, are the world's largest lecture forum in the industry and are known for intensive knowledge transfer in the field of machine vision. The trade fair takes place from October 8 - 10 in Stuttgart.

Many presentations will focus on trend topics such as 3D imaging, hyperspectral / beyond the visible and AI. Another hot topic is "high-speed" in the field of camera technology. "I am particularly excited about the panel discussion 'Generative AI for Machine Vision - Dream or Coming True?", says Anne Wendel, Head of the VDMA Machine Vision Department. "The topic of generative AI for machine vision is of great importance for the industry, not least due to developments such as ChatGPT2." The question arises as to whether there are already concrete developments towards a VisionGPT.

In addition to the VDMA panel discussion, the presentation of the VISION Award and the VISION Start-up Pitch Sessions are classic crowd-pullers at the Industrial VISION Days. The more than 70 presentations will also be available both as a livestream and online on demand.

Trend topic synthetic data

The Scientific VISION Days are all about synthetic data and digital twins. With digital twins, realistic data sets can be calculated even before the physical setup. This facilitates the correct design of image processing systems and reduces the testing effort on the production line. "These innovations are pushing the boundaries of the use of AI in image processing and make this year's Scientific VISION Days a must for finding out about the latest developments in this field," says Petra Thanner, an expert in image processing and thematic coordination at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, which is organizing the Scientific VISION Days in cooperation with Messe Stuttgart.

3D scanning at the next level

Another focus of VISION 2024 is machine vision. This involves modern lenses and innovative acquisition methods that improve the quality of 3D scanning. Clearer and more detailed images are the result. Advances in microscopy enable faster scanning, which in turn improves the scanning rate and speeds up analysis. New solutions also optimize the imaging of transparent materials and ensure more reliable data acquisition. In addition, the application of 3D scanning technology is being extended to areas such as welding and microscopy
which significantly improves quality control for the smallest details and therefore the precision of products.

Five companies nominated for the VISION Award

The Vision Award will be presented again this year. Five companies have been nominated.

A highlight of the forum program is the VISION Award. The prize for technological excellence in the field of image processing will be awarded during the trade fair. Five nominated companies will present their innovations in a one-hour session on October 9.

Judge Chris Yates of Vision Ventures praised the entries: "The entries from PxE Imaging, Toshiba Teli and AIT have used innovative combinations of optical elements and software to create powerful new sensing capabilities. Expanding the possibilities of imaging technology is a key growth factor, and each of these innovations points to an attractive new direction. A modular design and deployment philosophy is at the heart of Murrelektronik's hybrid switch and also AiRob's AI vision system." A shortlist of the best submissions can be found here.
