Big data analytics at the edge for mechanical engineering

The topic of data analysis has been part of mechanical engineering for a very long time. But why is big data analytics coming to the fore in mechanical engineering right now?

The aim of the discussion is to work out what statements can be made about the condition of a machine or system based on the analysis of big data, where such systems are already being used today and what other advantages there are for users in addition to condition monitoring and predictive maintenance.

Tanja Maaß, Managing Director at Resolto, Dr. Johannes Giet, Executive Board Research & Development at Isra Vision and Jörg Wende, Leading Technical Sales Professional at IBM, welcome you to the presentation on "Big Data Analytics at the Edge for Mechanical Engineering".

Date: November 25, 11:05 - 11:45 a.m.

The speakers

Tanja Maaß studied theoretical computer science and founded the company Resolto Informatik back in 2003 with a focus on making artificial intelligence usable for industry. In addition to Resolto, the Fraunhofer IOSB and various other institutes worked on the Scraitec product in a total of six research projects.

Resolto has been part of the Festo Group since 2018. Together, they are now driving forward the widespread use of Scraitec in industry.

Following his studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Technology Center North. He gained his first industrial experience there as a developer in a sensor technology group (acoustics, seismics, image processing).

Dr. Giet went through a "classic" career path from specialist area manager, group leader to department head and coordinator of all development activities at RMV (Rheinmetall Machine Vision). As part of restructuring measures, Rheinmetall AG also made him Technical Director of RMV in Karlsruhe in 1996. In 1997, he moved to RMV, where he initially took over the position of Technical Director and subsequently became Technical Director in 2001.

When RMV was taken over by Isra Vision in 2001, Dr. Giet became a member of the management board of Isra Vision AG as Director Surface Vision. In 2002, Dr. Giet was appointed to the Management Board and has been responsible for research and development ever since.
