AutomationML Part 3 is an international standard
Part 3 of the AutomationML standard has officially achieved International Standard (IS) status: "Geometry and Kinematics" (IEC 62714-3) now specifies the integration of geometry and kinematics information.
Since its foundation in 2009, AutomationML e. V. has been working on the seamless exchange of data between the various tools used in the different phases of plant design. AutomationML can be used to map plant data, starting with the plant topology, through geometry and kinematics information, to processes and logical dependencies. However, no new data format was developed for this, but existing formats (CAEX, COLLADA and PLCopen XML) were used and suitably combined.
Part 3 of the AutomationML standard now specifies the integration of geometry and kinematics information as it should be carried out for data exchange between design tools in system planning using AutomationML. It builds on the already published parts 1 and 2. The general architecture of the format has already been specified in Part 1, and basic role class libraries were defined in Part 2. In a further step, the modeling of behavioral descriptions is to be specified in Part 4 of the future.
