Residual current circuit breaker:
Protection for single-phase frequency inverters
Eaton has added a type F residual current circuit-breaker to its 'xEffect' family of switchgear for industrial applications. This provides machine and system manufacturers with a solution for personal and system protection for applications with single-phase frequency converters.
The type F circuit breaker protects against sinusoidal AC residual currents and pulsating DC residual currents such as type A; it also detects residual currents consisting of a frequency mixture of up to 1 kHz in accordance with IEC 62423. Such mixed frequencies typically occur at the output of a single-phase frequency converter. The type F residual current circuit-breakers can be loaded with smooth DC residual currents of up to 10 mA, have short-time delayed tripping and offer high resistance to current surges. There is a choice of two- and four-pole device variants for rated currents from 25 to 100 A. With three versions for different residual currents (30 mA, 100 mA, 300 mA), they are suitable for both personal and fault protection to prevent the risk of fire. Users can also connect the residual current circuit-breaker and all other RCD, MCB and RCD/LCB combination switches in the xEffect series directly to the company's intelligent wiring and communication system 'SmartWire-DT' using an SWD connection module.
