Siemens
New competence center for APAC
Siemens has inaugurated a data center competence center at the Global Infocity Park in Chennai, India. Covering an area of 6,000 m2, the new facility serves as a regional innovation center that brings together a team of more than 200 employees in one place.
The opening comes at a time when the data center market continues to grow rapidly with a forecast annual growth rate of 10.9% between 2023 and 2030. In the APAC region alone, around USD 75 billion is expected to be invested in data centers by 2025. This would see APAC overtake the USA to become the region with the highest data center investments worldwide.
Remco Sloothaak, Data Centers IEC Business Line Head at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, said: "Today's opening of our highly anticipated center of excellence underlines the importance of the data center market for Siemens, both globally and specifically in the APAC region. With this new facility, we now have a network of technical experts who can provide optimal customer support around the clock from three locations worldwide."
The team of experts in Chennai focuses on the development of modular and scalable solutions for energy distribution and automation. This allows installation and commissioning times to be reduced by up to 60 %.
Data centers are one of the most energy-intensive sectors with an estimated consumption of 240 to 340 TWh in 2022. This corresponds to 1 to 1.3 % of global electricity consumption.
