Harting
40 million euros for Distribution Center
Harting's European Distribution Center (EDC) is being built on a 7.6-hectare site in the north-east of Espelkamp at a cost of around EUR 40 million. From 2019, around 20,000 items will be shipped from here to customers all over the world every day.
The core elements of the new Harting EDC are the 20-metre-high high-bay warehouse and the highly automated order picking system. The high-bay warehouse offers space for 6,500 pallets and around 120,000 storage containers on an area of 4,500 square meters and is controlled fully automatically and paperless, including with RFID technology. Material movements in the hall are carried out using driverless transport systems. The order picking area covers an area of around 6,500 square meters. In future, 20,000 customer order items will be individually picked and packed here every day according to customer requirements.
Up to 110 trucks and vans will then leave the European Distribution Center (EDC) every day to supply customers with Harting products in the shortest possible time. In addition to the high-bay warehouse, there will also be rooms for administration and the employees who will work on "Marie-Harting-Straße" in the future.
Completion of the complex is scheduled for the end of 2018. The facility will then be gradually put into operation. With the logistics center, the company believes it is ideally equipped for the targeted increase in turnover and customer requirements for short delivery times.
