Acquisition
Siemens takes over ebm-papst's drive division
Siemens and ebm-papst have concluded a sales agreement. With the acquisition of ebm-papst's industrial drive technology division, the Group intends to expand its Xcelerator portfolio.
In accordance with a sales agreement, ebm-papst's industrial drive technology (IDT) division is being sold to Siemens. The Group sees the acquisition as a strategic addition to its Xcelerator portfolio. The IDT business with around 650 employees comprises intelligent, integrated mechatronic systems in the safety extra-low voltage range as well as innovative motion control systems. Through their use in mobile robots and driverless transport vehicles as well as in the automation of auxiliary processes, such as the retooling of modern production machines, they are an important lever for greater flexibility and productivity. High growth is therefore expected in this market segment.
According to the press release, the IDT portfolio will be integrated into Siemens' existing automation portfolio. According to the Group, the use of Siemens' own global sales network will open up new market access and "significant business potential in the field of flexible and autonomous factory automation".
The transaction is expected to be completed by mid-2025 and is subject to the necessary foreign trade and merger control approvals. ebm-papst's IDT business is located at the German sites in St. Georgen and Lauf an der Pegnitz as well as in Oradea, Romania. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
