"Research in the 21st century cannot take place in an ivory tower," said Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser at the award ceremony. "Open innovation is the magic word - innovation today is a team sport." For this reason, the prize, which has been awarded annually to outstanding researchers and developers at the company since 1995, was upgraded this year: "New Talents", "Outstanding Invention", "Lifetime Achievement" and "Open Innovation" are the categories in which inventors who make a significant contribution to the company's success are honored.
