First ultra-fast commercial charging station on the A3
Europe's largest truck stop, Autohof Strohofer on the A3 in Geiselwind, is the first of many locations from which E.on and the Danish mobility service provider Clever are weaving a network of charging stations. "Ultra-fast" means in 20 minutes and even faster in future.
Dorothee Bär, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (left), presents the federal government's funding decision. The station is due to go into operation at the end of 2017 and will become part of a Europe-wide ultra-fast charging network
© E.ON AGE.on and Clever have designed the station for a total of four charging points with an output of 150 kW to 350 kW. At this first commercial, ultra-fast charging station, batteries of next-generation electric vehicles with a range of 400 kilometers can be charged in just around 20 minutes - in future, with 350 kW power, even faster.
Decisive factors in choosing Geiselwind as the first location for an ultra-fast charging station included its strategically favorable location between Frankfurt and Munich and the wide range of services offered by the Autohof. E.on's regional supplier Bayernwerk will connect the station to the grid and ensure its operation. Construction is expected to begin in late summer. The plan is to put the facility into operation at the end of 2017.
Dorothee Bär, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, explained at the handover of the funding decision from the federal charging infrastructure program to E.on:
"With the federal charging infrastructure program, the Federal Ministry of Transport is providing around 300 million euros to build 15,000 charging stations nationwide by 2020. Our aim is to create a nationwide charging infrastructure. This will strengthen drivers' confidence that they can charge their vehicles anytime and anywhere."Frank Meyer, Head of Innovation and B2C Solutions at E.on, explained: "With our project in Geiselwind, the future of electromobility is becoming a reality for our customers. Our customers need fast charging in order to be able to cover long distances with electric vehicles. In Geiselwind, we are showing how this is possible - today and in the future."
Anton Strohofer, operator of Autohof Strohofer, emphasized: "As the largest Autohof in Europe, it is our job to keep up with the times and to constantly expand the service portfolio for our customers and guests. That's why we were immediately open to the new generation of electric mobility with ultra-fast charging stations, so that customers can recharge their cars quickly, safely and directly on their route as usual. Autohof Strohofer is located on the A3, one of the most important routes in Europe, and can be reached from both directions via the junction."
