Entering the Machine Building Business

Known as a technology supplier to robot manufacturers, Synapticon now plans to offer targeted solutions for machine builders. The kick-off was given at the SPS IPC Drives with the ‚Actilink‘ drive systems and a quick-start package for the production of small robots.

With Synapticon‘s Quick Start Kit, machine builders will be able to rapidly mass produce small robots.

With an eye on the machine building market, the company, founded in 2010, is adding an extended version ‚Actilink‘ to its integrated drive systems of the ‚Link‘ series. The ‚Link‘ systems each include a ‚Somanet Drive Node‘ drive controller, an encoder and, if required, further sensors, a PMSM motor with brake and a reducer. As solutions for fully integrated motion axes, they are ready for installation; their individual components can be combined to customer specifications.

With Actilink, Synapticon now wants to go one step further: „In various projects with machine manufacturers, we have seen the potential of our highly integrated technology for this segment,“ explains Synapticon Managing Director Nikolai Ensslen. „Accordingly, we have analyzed the market and compared it with our expertise. We are now presenting the results in the form of first products at SPS IPC Drives“.

The initial ‚Actilink Motion Node‘ portfolio comprises two series of servo motors with integrated ‚Somanet Servo Node‘, with 60 and 80 mm flange dimensions, designed for 48 V operation. While the 60 series covers the power range from 200 to 500 W with continuous and peak torque up to 1.2 Nm and 5 Nm, the 80 series covers the range from 600 to 1000 W with continuous and peak torque up to 3 Nm and 12.5 Nm. In addition to the servo motors with integrated servo drive, Actilink offers a complete solution including power supply and cabling with integrated braking resistor.

Also new is the reference design for small robots, which Synapticon aims to enable machine builders to produce robots in series quickly and without great effort. The quick-start package is based on Synapticon‘s ‚Link 6-Axis Reference Design‘ (L6RD). The 800 mm long, 6 kg robot arm does not require a control cabinet.

„With the reference design, we enable classic machine builders to develop their own articulated arm robot solutions without great effort,“ emphasizes Nikolai Ensslen. The reference design includes a construction plan (CAD design), a complete bill of materials, a 2D assembly sketch, documentation and prototype test results as well as a commissioning guide.
