Entering new markets with drive controllers
Kostal Industrie Elektrik describes the latest member of its 'Inveor' drive controller family as a "new dimension in decentralized drive technology". It is intended to open up new markets for the company, such as conveyor technology and logistics.
The device called 'Inveor MP', which will be on show for the first time at SPS IPC Drives, is characterized, among other things, by open-loop control technology and a smart commissioning option via Bluetooth app. "With the 'Inveor MP', extremely good energy values can be achieved in combination with synchronous and synchronous reluctance motors as well as asynchronous motors," says Dirk Fedder, Head of the Drives business unit at Kostal Industrie Elektrik. "The sensorless motor control and the extended speed setting range get the maximum out of every application with minimum energy consumption." Thanks to the implemented open-loop control technology, the dynamics of the decentralized drive controller are comparable to known closed-loop systems. With its universal motor adaptation concept, it fits any industrial motor. The 'Inveor MP' complies with protection class IP65, meaning that it can also be used under difficult conditions. It can be put into operation via Bluetooth app or PC software. The device offers pluggable M12 connections for connection to the CANopen, EtherCAT, Modbus RTU, Profibus, Profinet and Sercos bus systems.
With the drive controller, the company aims to open up new markets and increase its share of existing ones: "Firstly, it should increase market penetration in the sectors we already serve, such as pumps, fans and compressors, especially in demanding applications," explains Dirk Fedder. "Secondly, we are aiming to expand the market into the conveyor technology and logistics sectors, and thirdly, we also want to reach other applications with the innovative motor control method."
In addition to the 'Inveor MP', Kostal has also launched its first variant, the 'Inveor MP Modular'. It is equipped with an intelligent power section and offers the same power electronic properties as the 'Inveor MP', but does not require a separate application card. Instead, the drive controller is modularly configurable so that customers can adapt it specifically to an application. It can also be equipped with various add-ons such as an I/O module or an integrated braking resistor. Like the 'Inveor MP', users can connect it to bus systems via plug-in M12 connections.
"The main switch option of the 'Inveor MP Modular' and the elimination of additional modules, made possible by the modular design, can be a cost-optimized central solution for applications in the transport and logistics sector," comments Dirk Fedder. "Customer electronics can also be accommodated in the housing of the drive controller."
