Engine diagnostics via smartphone app

Deutz is on the way to digital service: At the Agritechnica agricultural machinery trade fair, the engine manufacturer presented the 'Deutz Connect' app, which will allow users to analyze engine data live on their smartphone and transmit fault data directly to workshops.

'Deutz Connect' combines a modern on-board analysis system with the engine manufacturer's service and repair offers.

The app developed by the Berlin-based company Init bundles a lot of engine information on a clear dashboard. Engine and exhaust gas aftertreatment system variables are evaluated and displayed in real time. The diagnostic tool shows the current engine speed, ambient air pressure and temperature, fuel delivery pressure or coolant level. Data is exchanged via a Bluetooth interface, which only requires an OBD-2 diagnostic adapter to be connected to the engine.

Problems can be identified and recorded with specific measurements, for example on engine load. Until now, a service technician was required for such diagnostics. If the user detects irregularities, they can contact a local service partner via the app and transmit the error memory with a single click.

"Deutz Connect is our first step into the digital service world. Together with Init, we have created the basis for easy customer contact with our service," says Dr. Matthias Szupories, Senior Vice President Marketing, Strategic Product and Market Development, at Deutz AG.
