When developing the 'e.GO Life', the project team was helped by the new EC Directive L7e for small vehicles, which limits the maximum speed to 90 km/h with a vehicle width of 1.50 meters. The basic version of the 'e.GO Life' is expected to cost 12,500 euros. The plastic-planked structure reduces the manufacturing costs of the vehicle compared to conventional self-supporting bodies. A 48-volt drive with high-volume e-motors and a consistent modular design also contribute to the very low manufacturing costs.

With two additional batteries and as a "2 + 2" seater, the model achieves a range of 120 km. Initially, 100 test vehicles will be produced in 2017, 75 of which will be sold to beta testers. When the 'e.GO Life' reaches the market, series production of up to 10,000 vehicles per year is to be set up in the Aachen industrial area.

The 'e.GO Life' is already the second electric car to be developed on the RWTH Aachen Campus. StreetScooter GmbH was launched in 2010 and now produces a fully electric, light commercial vehicle for mail delivery in series. Six vehicles a day are produced in Aachen. The electric vehicles are in daily use by Deutsche Post DHL Group throughout Germany. Deutsche Post DHL Group took over StreetScooter GmbH in 2014.
