ebm-papst gives up business in Russia
The fan manufacturer ebm-papst is giving up its business in Russia due to the war in Ukraine and its economic consequences. The family-owned company presented a record result for the past financial year.
Two companies there with a total of around 50 employees will be sold to the local management, as CEO Klaus Geißdörfer said on Thursday (June 23) in Mulfingen (Hohelohe district). "We are currently delivering to Ukraine in individual cases," he said. The manufacturer employs just under ten people there.
With around 14,800 employees worldwide, ebm-papst produces fans and motors for air conditioning and ventilation systems, as well as for the household appliance and automotive industries. In the last financial year, which ended in March, the family-owned company increased its turnover by almost ten percent to a record figure of around 2.3 billion euros. Due to higher material prices, however, profits - which are not specified - fell, as Geißdörfer explained.
Like others, the manufacturer is also battling a shortage of semiconductors and other electronic components. Production will therefore come to a standstill in some areas, said Geißdörfer. He criticized the fact that there are semiconductor manufacturers in Germany who continue to export on a massive scale. The domestic industry was losing out. "We need to rethink whether this can continue in Germany," said Geißdörfer.
