E-sports car 'Taycan' from Porsche with over 600 hp
The first all-electric Porsche will go into series production next year. It has now been given a name: The 'Mission E' concept study, which is now used to describe the manufacturer's entire electric offensive, has been renamed 'Taycan'.
Two permanently excited synchronous motors with a system output of over 600 hp (440 kW) accelerate the electric sports car to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and to 200 km/h in less than 12 seconds. The maximum range is over 500 km according to the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). The vehicle has an 800 V architecture and is prepared for charging on the fast-charging network. Here, energy for a range of 100 km can be recharged in around four minutes.
Porsche is investing more than 6 billion euros in electromobility by 2022, doubling the originally planned expenditure. Of the additional 3 billion euros, around 500 million euros will be invested in the development of variants and derivatives of the 'Taycan', a good 1 billion euros in the electrification and hybridization of the existing product range, several 100 million euros in the expansion of the sites and around 700 million euros in new technologies, charging infrastructure and smart mobility.
At the manufacturer's main plant in Zuffenhausen, a new paint shop and a dedicated assembly line for the 'Taycan' are currently being built, as well as a conveyor bridge for transporting the painted bodies and drive units to final assembly. The existing engine plant is being expanded for the production of electric drives and the body shop is being extended. Investments are also being made in the Weissach development center. The 'Taycan' will create around 1,200 new jobs in Zuffenhausen alone.
