Driving all'italiana

At a press conference on the SPS IPC Drives, Bonfiglioli presented what it is bringing along new to this year‘s SPS IPC Drives – from control cabinet inverters through servo inverters to precision planetary gears.

With the Active Cube 8 control cabinet solution the Italian drive engineering specialist expands its inverter range from 200 through 1200 kW. "The minimal cabinet width for a 1.2-MW drive is only 1200 millimeters", stresses Stéphane Sumron, product manager of the MDS division of Bonfiglioli. Drives work on power of 400, 525 and 690 V, and come with flexible connectivity options for very different environments through to extreme IP54 grading. The series of inverters is capable of driving both asynchronous and permanent-magnet motors with a sensorless and closed-loop control circuit.

Also coming with fluid cooling, the units are especially suitable for use in the rough and tough environments of heavy industry, the kind you find in mining, metal and paper production. Another aspect that Sumron focuses in the ACU 8 series is its high power density of 370 kW/m³. Extra to legacy features, the ACU 8 offers further choices like PLC functionality and feedback sensor. Last but not least there are common communication options such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP and Ethercat. Integrated to standard is a Safe Torque Off (STO) function and SIL 2.

As part of new TQF gearbox development, Bonfiglioli combined it with the legacy BMD motor series to create a space-saving servo solution.

Bonfiglioli also enters the marketplace with its Active Next Generation (ANG) of servo inverters. In three modules ANG ranges in power from 0.25 through 400 kW, working on voltages of 230, 400, 525 and 690 Vac. Microcontroller-supported, says Sumron, it was possible to integrate expanded functionality like a cyclic synchronous positioning mode with cubic interpolation, braking control and feedback contact evaluation. A new positioning configuration is intended especially for traction drive in crane applications. The series offers communication possibilities CANopen, RS232, Ethercat, Ethernet/IP and Profinet. Plus, ANG comes with extra features like PLC with graphical software tool and feedback sensors, and here too STO safety is integrated.

The third innovation from Bonfiglioli - the TQF precision flange planetary gearing, intended primarily for use on modern high-speed servomotors. This series shows five scales (060, 070, 090, 130 and 160), covering a range up to 800 Nm torque. Furthermore, mentions product manager Loredana Matea, the TQF series with its special design exhibits angle backlash of less than 3 arc min. Typical applications for these gearboxes, he says, are in precision rotary drives, gantry and column slewing drives as well as axis drives for material conveyance.
