According to the manufacturer, a patented spring mechanism in Melior Motion's PSC gearboxes ensures minimal backlash for life and therefore qualifies the precision gearboxes for various automation and robotics applications.
Other special features of the gearboxes include a conically toothed planetary stage and a helical toothed input stage. Compared to cycloidal gears, the drive solutions are up to ten times more precise with a backlash of ≤0.1 angular minute and a lost motion of ≤0.6 angular minute, according to the supplier. The spring mechanism ensures that the precision is maintained for at least 20,000 hours of operation. The conically toothed planetary stage also contributes to accuracy, as the teeth mesh without play. In combination with the helical-toothed input stage, it makes the gears quiet and low-vibration.
