Change in management
Dr. Markus Heering will join the management of the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) and the VDMA Machine Tools and Manufacturing Systems Association on May 1, 2023.
Dr. Markus Heering (55) will manage the two associations together with Dr. Wilfried Schäfer until the end of the year. Schäfer has headed the two associations since 2008 and will retire on December 31, 2023.
After studying at RWTH Aachen University, Markus Heering gained his first professional experience in an environmental technology company. During this time, he completed his doctorate in engineering in 1998 while working. In 2000, he began his association career at the VDMA as a consultant in the Thermal Process and Waste Technology Association, where he became Deputy Managing Director in 2004. After a further four years, he took over the management of the Printing and Paper Technology Association and the Security Systems Association in 2008. In 2022, he was appointed Managing Director of the VDMA's Additive Manufacturing Association.
Markus Heering has a wealth of experience in the trade fair business, having been involved with his trade associations as a conceptual sponsor of drupa, security and formnext. Other focal points of his work to date have been the development of VDMA activities on the subject of additive manufacturing with the working group and trade association, for which he will continue to be responsible. He has also expanded the global association for the field of security systems and spun off and further developed the certification body for this area.
The German Machine Tool Builders' Association (VDW), based in Frankfurt am Main, has been the spokesperson for the German machine tool industry for more than 130 years. Together with the VDMA's Machine Tool and Manufacturing Systems Association, the VDW has around 300 mainly medium-sized members. They represent around 90% of the industry's total turnover, which most recently amounted to over 14 billion euros.
