Inka Krischke,

Bearingless, flexibly configurable encoder

Baumer is opening up new possibilities in drive technology with its 'LowHarmonics' encoder technology. The first product with this signal processing is the compact incremental magnetic ring encoder 'EB260'.

The bearingless encoder combines the precision of optical scanning with the robustness and cost-effectiveness of magnetic systems in a minimal installation space. The LowHarmonics signal processing with auto-calibration eliminates signal errors caused by mounting, temperature, ageing and mechanical factors, thus ensuring precision and control quality. The integrated airgap monitor continuously records the distance to the magnetic rotor. Even the smallest changes caused by damage to the machine mechanics are monitored and reported to the higher-level system. According to Baumer , the magnetic encoder is extremely robust thanks to its bearingless design and hermetically encapsulated electronics. It operates wear-free, does not heat itself up and is immune to shaft currents, strong impacts and shaft movements. It offers flexible shaft diameters and has an installation depth of 11 mm. Thanks to the intuitive 'Baumer Sensor Suite' software, a parameterizable motion monitor and switching output as well as square-wave, sine/cosine and IO-Link interfaces, the encoder is flexible in configuration.
