It is not the age of mechanical and plant engineers that determines the level of their salaries, but their qualifications. This is one of the findings of the new '2016 Salary Study for Specialists and Managers', which has now been published by the VDMA.

Apprentices in mechanical engineering start their first year with an average monthly salary of 860 euros in the technical field, rising to 1078 euros in their fourth year. Commercial trainees also receive an average of 860 euros in their first year and 964 euros in their third year.
