Bundesbank expects stronger growth

After a strong start to the year, the Bundesbank believes that the German economy will grow even more strongly in 2017 than recently expected. The central bank is now forecasting a 1.9% increase in gross domestic product (GDP) for the current year.

In their last economic forecast six months ago, the Bundesbank's economists were still forecasting growth of 1.8%. On June 9, 2017, President Jens Weidmann spoke of a "broad-based, fairly strong economic upturn". The very good situation on the labor market is boosting consumption, while low interest rates are stimulating residential construction, for example. The Bundesbank also slightly increased its GDP forecasts for 2018 (now plus 1.7%) and 2019 (plus 1.6%).
