3-channel miniature optical encoder from Elesta
© Elesta GmbH

Elesta offers a 3-channel miniature optical encoder with an aluminum housing, a length of 13 mm and a diameter of 7 mm. The patented system used in it works according to an optically focusing incident light method. According to the supplier, a high punctual light intensity at the light sensor enables the system to operate with less than 4 mA at 5 V. The encoder is designed for speeds up to a maximum of 80,000 rpm. Two outputs each provide 128 square-wave pulses/revolution with a duty cycle of 50 %. The phase shift of the two signals is 90°. The 3rd output supplies one index pulse per revolution. Coupling the encoder to motors or gears with standard coupling elements is possible, as is the adaptation of potentiometer knobs with collets or fixing screws.
