Image sensorsDespite the poor lighting conditions

ON Semiconductor announces a second image sensor with IT-EMCCD technology that allows sharp images to be taken even in unfavorable lighting conditions. Samples of the 8 megapixel sensor are already available.

An interline transfer EMCCD image sensor can send poorly illuminated pixels via the EMCCD output of the sensor, where the signal is amplified, and well-illuminated pixels via the normal CCD output. This significantly increases the dynamic range. Overdriving of bright image areas is prevented and contrasts in the shadow area can also be made visible.
