Safety and security in transformation
In modern industrial environments, safety and security are a basic requirement for efficient and reliable processes. For the transformation of industry, Pilz offers automation solutions with which machine builders and operators can ensure the protection of people, machinery and the environment.
Whether for machines with an elementary range of functions or interlinked plant and machinery: the pioneer of safe automation, headquartered in Ostfildern, creates safety for man, machine and the environment worldwide with its complete automation solutions - including industrial security. Pilz ensures that devices, plant and machinery are also protected against unauthorized access and manipulation.
The technology leader offers manufacturers and operators a comprehensive overall portfolio that includes sensors, control and drive technology as well as systems for industrial communication, diagnostics and visualization. A global service program with safety consulting, engineering, product training and seminars on the subject of machinery safety complements Pilz's product portfolio. In addition to products for safety, i.e. the protection of people, the company offers products and services for industrial security on the machine. This includes Identification and Access Management (I.A.M.) with solutions such as the PITreader access authorization system and the SecurityBridge industrial firewall. For Pilz, industrial security focuses on the availability of plant and machinery as well as the integrity and confidentiality of machine data and processes.
Innovation is corporate DNA
Innovation was the key to success right from the start: the introduction of pioneering products - such as the world's first safety relay PNOZ (P = Pilz, NO = emergency stop, Z = positively driven) - for safe automation was the focus in the early years and remains so to this day. In 2021, Pilz launched myPNOZ, the world's first modular safety relay in batch size 1. The tailor-made automation solutions from a single source not only ensure increased safety for man and machine, but also greater efficiency. The system solutions from Pilz make production processes more efficient and thus avoid downtimes.
Starting from its core competence of safety, the company has developed into a full-range supplier of automation solutions - safety and automation have been intelligently merged. Pilz transfers its many years of experience and comprehensive knowledge of safety technology to the requirements of general control of plant and machinery. For Pilz, safety is more than just a product: with safety consulting and engineering, the automation company offers a comprehensive and competent service - from the safety-related inspection of machinery and risk analysis to system integration and verification at the customer's site. This is complemented by product training and seminars on the subject of machinery safety. Together with TÜV NORD, Pilz established the international training program CMSE® - Certified Machinery Safety Expert in 2013, setting standards for international training in the field of machinery safety for the first time.
The core of the portfolio includes configurable and programmable control systems such as the safe small controller PNOZmulti 2 and the automation system PSS 4000 for safety and automation. The company's product portfolio also includes electronic monitoring devices, safety relays, safe sensor technology, automation solutions with motion control, systems for industrial communication as well as visualization solutions and operator terminals.
Pilz at SPS 2025: Innovations for the digital transformation
How can automation solutions with safety and security support and help shape the digital transformation in production? In Nuremberg Pilz will be presenting its latest additions to the Pilz IO-Link safety system for safe and flexible connectivity - the world's first certified IO-Link safety master "Master IOLS" and the control unit "PITgatebox IOLS". Another focus: the new Myzel Lifecycle Platform. With this platform, the automation company is offering a new software-as-a-service offering in an initial expansion stage that supports machine manufacturers and operators in complying with legal regulations and safety requirements throughout the entire lifecycle.
Secure and flexible connectivity is part of a successful transformation. This requires data communication that can implement both safety and standard communication. Pilz has expanded its IO-Link safety portfolio for this purpose and is presenting the first certified IO-Link safety master for decentralized communication at the SPS. It extends the functions of a conventional IO-Link master with the option of safe communication in the area of functional safety. Pilz safety gate systems can now also be controlled "live" and safely via IO-Link Safety. Thanks to the IO-Link communication protocol, live data communication is possible with the PITgatebox IOLS operating unit - for example on the door status - and data flows directly into the system controller.
Another thematic highlight on the Pilz stand will be compact yet broadly functional safety sensors: the new product variants of the compact safe safety gate system PSENmgate now also offer space for operating elements such as pushbuttons and therefore a wider range of operating functions. Pilz will also be focusing on security and the appropriate solutions for this in Nuremberg, for example with Identification and Access Management I.A.M.
