Almost 400 participants, speakers and exhibitors took advantage of the wide range of information on safety and security in industry and the automotive sector and came together in Munich on July 6 and 7 to discuss the latest technologies and trends at a high technical level.

Functional safety specialist Dr. Olaf Winne provided many newcomers and career changers with the basics of the topic in his one-day seminar on the day before, July 5. The next morning, Ralph Langner, a prominent cybersecurity expert, opened the forum with his keynote speech on "Why industrial cybersecurity is (still) difficult". He discussed the challenges of growing digital complexity, particularly with regard to safety, and identified the most important sticking points that need to be addressed by industrial cyber security.

The importance of safety and security for users and companies was also evident in the exhibition area, where 28 exhibitors presented the latest components, technologies, systems and services relating to safety.

After the keynote, the lecture program was divided into two parts: separate tracks were dedicated to the application areas of industry and automotive on both days of the conference, plus a two-day track on methods and tools for functional safety and a track on hardware and software for functionally safe systems on the first day of the conference.

The interplay between safety and security was a consistent theme throughout the entire program, the speakers highlighted many aspects from both sides, and the structure of the program formed the thematic arc from the safety aspects in mechanical and plant engineering to the relevance for automotive applications and the necessary tools and procedures.

The next Safety & Security Forum, which is organized by the four trade media Computer&AUTOMATION, DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK, Elektronik automotive and Markt&Technik, will take place in Munich from 4 to 6 July 2017.
