Background: The IEC/EN 61496 standard for light barriers, light curtains and light grids only defines types 2 and 4: Following the amendment of the standard in May 2015, type 2 light grids may only be used in applications with performance level c. Type 4 light grids can still be used for performance level e. Type 3 is now assigned to performance level d, although this was not previously available on the product side. As a result, since the change to the standard, users have had to switch to type 4 if they want to fulfill PL d, which in practice leads to increased costs if type 4 is not required at all. PSENopt II is now intended to close this gap and provide an economical, adapted light curtain solution.
