Claudia Plattner takes over the management
On July 1, Claudia Plattner will take over the management of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
Claudia Plattner studied mathematics at the Technical University of Darmstadt and at Tulane University in the USA. She has worked in the IT sector for almost two decades. Since mid-2021, Plattner has been Director General for Information Systems at the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt and thus responsible for cybersecurity and the management of all digitalization processes and other key strategic issues at the ECB and the Eurosystem/European System of Central Banks (ESCB). Previously, Claudia Plattner had been Chief Information Officer at DB Systel GmbH, Frankfurt, since 2017, heading the division responsible for the digitalization and modernization of Deutsche Bahn's internal IT system.
"The threat level in the area of cyber security remains high. We are also experiencing a turning point for internal security due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences. This is why cyber security is a top priority. As the federal cyber security authority, the BSI plays a central role in this. I am therefore delighted that Claudia Plattner, an experienced and internationally well-connected IT security expert, is now at the helm of the BSI. Her move to the BSI marks the first time that a woman has become President of a security authority within the Federal Ministry of the Interior. This is also a strong sign and a great gain," said Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser on the inauguration of the new BSI President.
