Optimizing System Inspections with Drone Technology

Yokogawa Electric has entered into a distribution partnership with Tokyo-based Sensyn Robotics with the aim of offering comprehensive drone services to customers in various industries.

In the oil and gas industry, the chemical industry and other production sectors, routine inspections often have to be carried out in high-risk environments - be it at high altitude, offshore or other hard-to-access locations or in hazardous environments. The existing shortage of skilled labor further exacerbates these challenges. The need for autonomous solutions such as robots and drones that can perform inspection tasks and data collection is therefore constantly increasing. To meet this development, Yokogawa launched the 'OpreX Robot Management Core' software in March 2024. This platform enables the centralized management of mobile robots from different manufacturers and thus creates new possibilities for safe and efficient plant inspection.

Sensyn Robotics develops and delivers technologies that enable the digital transformation of social and industrial infrastructure maintenance. 'Sensyn Core', Sensyn Robotics' application platform, combines drones, artificial intelligence and data analysis and has already been tested in numerous applications in Japan, for example in the inspection of power grids and wind turbines as well as in the surveying of forests. The platform can be used to control drones from major global manufacturers.

"Yokogawa sees the use of robots and drones as an essential element in the journey from industrial automation to industrial autonomy. This agreement with Sensyn Robotics allows us to offer innovative, long-term solutions from a single source that can truly improve safety in the manufacturing environment," explains Masaharu Maeda, Vice President of Yokogawa Electric.
