RoboCup World Championship 2017German robots impress in Japan

Soccer skills were on display at the RoboCup robotics competition in Japan at the end of July. At the forefront: the robots from the German university teams. They also showed how advanced they are technologically in the industrial, household and rescue disciplines.

In the soccer simulation leagues, eleven simulated robots play against each other. In the 2D league, the simulation soccer matches are played virtually on a PC, run on a server and can be followed on screen. The 'FRA-UNIted' team from Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (pictured) has prepared a soccer-playing source code for this, which is enhanced with various AI algorithms. This enabled the team to win the runner-up title.

The advantage of simulated robot soccer is that it is possible to test and further develop adaptive algorithms without having to invest in hardware.
